Choi Jeong Hwa

Bad movie(1998)

four gracious plants (2000)

One of the unforgettable experiences of Koreans in the ¡®70s was to salute the Korean flag to the background of the National anthem, in the cinema before the main programme. Under the military dictatorship, this enforced patriotism also made the people more aware of the Division and the delicate knife-edge of peace-war on which the country stood.

Choi Jeong Hwa is one of the new generations of Korean artists whose works explore the new aesthetics implicit in the current Kitsch culture in Korea . His new work, ¡®BAD Movies', looks back to the seventies in a playful manner, showing everyday scenes filled with decorative nature of the city, to the background of the Korean national anthem.
