	SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! is an exhibition that focuses on these developments of a particular city, as a scene and as a site. It follows the art scene in Seoul from the early 90's but has its focus on the present, at the same time as it allows the city itself to be mirrored through the art. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! traces the outlines of a moving target, and tries to catch the interplay of artists and the city during the last 10 to 15 years. Though it is not a retrospective exhibition, all artists are currently active in Seoul, and most of them are also frequently exhibiting internationally. Some of them have emerged only in recent years, while others are still students. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! uncovers layers not easily seen in the city, through projects made by artists. History, architecture, city planning, youth culture, social aspects as well as gender and identity issues are present, while urban realities are used and examined from various approaches. Documentary methods and material are used and twisted in highly personal ways, while the city and its contemporary realities have passed through a number of spatial, formal and metaphorical considerations. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! offers a jigsaw puzzle of parts not always matching or fitting, where the point is not to give a definite understanding of Seoul as city and art scene, but to suggest a number of alternative readings. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! is the first attempt to give a coherent view of the developments in one of the worlds more recent contemporary art's scenes. The curators Jiyoon Lee and Pontus Kyander combine their different viewpoints, where the former is born and raised in Seoul and thus relates to the city and the scene from the inside, and the latter is a foreigner who has followed the art scene in Seoul for many years and thus has an informed outsiders perspective.
		ABOUT CHARLOTTENBORG EXHIBITION HALL
	In the heart of Copenhagen, on Kongens Nytorv, between the Nyhavn canal and the Royal Theatre, lies Charlottenborg Palace, built in 1683. Today the palace houses the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where young artists and architects are trained. The Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall is situated behind the palace in direct extension of its central axis. From 1883 on it has been an important venue for art in central Copenhagen. After extensive refurbishing in 1980, the Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall is now an exhibition space of international standards. Throughout the year it houses different Danish and international exhibitions of contemporary art. The exhibition hall has 1 400 m2 floor space, distributed over 20 various spacious and well-lit rooms. It also has a restaurant and a bookshop.
		CURATORS
	Jiyoon Lee (co-curator) Jiyoon Lee is an independent curator, critic and lecturer based in London. One of the many activities, she works as a linkage in between Asia and Europe introducing different contemporary culture to each other. She is responsible for the development, fund-raising, organisation and curating of various large scale international exhibitions, including the British contemporary art exhibition ‘London Underground’ at Sungkok Art Museum (Seoul 2001) and the Taipei Fine Art Museum (2002), and ‘east of eden’ exhibition held in Victoria Miro Project Space (London 2003) and ‘telltale’ . Also as a serial project, she has been exploring a new type venue for the contemporary art exhibition in the Korean ambassadors’ private residencies: The State of the House (London 2001), The Taste of the House (Oslo 2004). She recently curates the video screening show entitled `Enclosed’ at British Museum Stevenson lecture theatre presenting Korean video art works as a premiere to the London audience. She is also a regular contributor to the Korean art magazines “Art World” and “Wolgan Misul”. Since 2000, she has been a lecturer for Ewha university summer program, teaching curatorship and Western art history. Pontus Kyander (co-curator) Pontus Kyander is an art critic and curator based in Malmoe, Sweden. He has a Fil Lic from the University of Lund, Sweden, where he has also taught. He is the editor-in-chief of a new contemporary arts program in Swedish Public Television (SVT). He has previously curated the international exhibitions Nature of Man (in Lunds Konsthall, Sweden, 1998; cat), Waterfront (part of the regional biennial Kulturbro, in Sweden and Denmark, 2000; cat), sur face (Lunds Konsthall, Sweden 2000; cat), Dagr (Santiago de Compostela, Spain, 2002), Overlap (Århus Kunstbygning, Denmark, 2002; cat) Ernesto Neto (Aarhus Kunstbygning, Denmark, 2002; cat) and From Dust to Dusk (Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, 2003; cat). Pontus Kyander is since 1994 art critic at Sydsvenska Dagbladet, one of Sweden’s major daily papers, and has written for numerous national and international art magazines. He has published catalogue texts for international artists like Ernesto Neto, Nedko Solakov and Maaria Wirkkala, apart from essays for Swedish artists. Rooted in Finland and raised in Sweden, he has a good knowledge about both Scandinavian and Finnish languages, culture and art.

	SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! 전시는 서울이라는 특정성을 가진 장소와 공간으로써의 도시발전에 촛점을 맞춘 전시이다. 1990년대 초반의 서울의 미술세계의 흐름을 살펴보는 동시에, 현재의 현장성에 더욱 강조를 하는 전시로써, 도시성은 작가들의 작품에 반영이 되어 보여진다. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! 전시는 현재 영동적으로 움직이는 서울의 흔적들을 추적해보며, 지난 10-15년간의 도시성을 작가들의 작품을 통해 알아보려 한다. 본 전시는 일련의 과거를 회고하는 전시라기보다는 현재 서울에 거주하며 국내적으로, 또 국제적으로 활동을 보이고 있는 한국작가들에 의해서 현재 서울의 특징에 더욱 촛점을 맞춘 전시이다. 초청된 대부분의 작가들은 최근 국제적으로 매우 주목을 받고 있으며, 또한 그중에는 여전히 학생작가들도 포함되어 있다. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW! 전시는 작가들의 프로젝트를 통해, 쉽게 보이지 않는 서울의 다양한 면들을 발굴해 보려한다. 즉, 도시의 현실은 공간적인 것과 형태적으로 작가들에 의해 조사되어 지고 연구되어 보여지는 반면, 역사, 건축, 도시 설계, 젊은이들의 문화, 사회적인 이슈점들은 성과 정체성에 대한 내용들도 함께 공존 될 것이다. SEOUL: UNTIL NOW!는 관람자들에게 그리 완벽하게 잘 맞춰지지 않은 직소퍼즐과 같은 시각을 보여줌으로써, 서울의 도시성과 서울의 미술계의 현장을 완전한 설명으로 이해시키려는 것이 아닌, 이 도시에 대한 매우 다양한 대채적인 해석이 가능할 수 있도록 많은 대안과 제안을 제공하기를 시도한다.
		샬롯텐보르그에 대하여
	코펜하겐 중심에 위치한 샬롯텐 보르그는 1683년에 설립된 궁전으로써, 니하븐 운하와 왕립극장의 사이에 위치하고 있다. 또한, 오늘날은 왕립미술학교를 운영함으로써, 젊고 창의력있는 미술인들과 건축인들일 배출해 내고 있다. 샬롯텐 보르그전시장은 궁전의 바로 뒷 건물 중앙에 위치하고 있으며, 1883년부터 매우 중요한 공공 미술전시 공간이 되어 왔다. 1980년대의 대대적인 개조공사로 인해, 본 전시관은 국제적인 전시공간으로 부족함이 없는 공간을 보유하고 있을 뿐아니라, 일년 내내 덴마아크 미술전시 이외에도 국제적인 전시 프로그램을 운영하고 있다. 1400평방미터의 대형공간은 아주 좋은 채공을 가지고 있으며, 20개 이상의 전시 공간들로 나누어져 있다. 이 전시장은 샬롯텐보르그 궁전의 정문을 통하거나, 니하븐 운하 옆의 입구를 통해 출입하도록 되어 있다.
		큐레이터
	이지윤 런던에서 독립큐레이터로 활동하고 있는 이지윤은 연대 불문학과 졸업, 골드스미스 미술대학 미술사학 디플로마와 석사(93-96), 씨티 대학의 미술관박물관학 석사(98-00)를 졸업하고, 2001년 성곡미술관에서 영국현대미술전인 `런던 언더그라운드London Underground', 대만 국립미술관에서 영국현대미술전(2002)등의 대규모 국제전을 기획하였고, 2003년 런던에서 처음으로 한국인으로 아트카운슬의 지원대상으로 선정되어, 한영 수교 100주년 기념 전인 `에덴의 동쪽east of eden'전시를 빅토리아 미로 갤러리 프로젝트 스페이스에서 기획하여 많은런던의 주요 잡지들의 리뷰를 받고 있다. 그 외에도 런던에서 artinlondon 교육기관을 설립, 그를 통해 4년간 이화여자대학교의 3학점제 여름 학기 강의를 런던에서 진행하고 있다. 대영박물관(2000) 한국관 관 설립과 유럽내에 아시아 문화를 소개하는 기능을 하는 아시아 하우스Asia House(2001)에서 한국관을 담당하여 일하였으며, 1998년 이후 한국 월간미술잡지인 월간미술과 미술세계에 유럽 전시 비평을 기고하고 있다. 최근 런던 대영박물관, 스티븐슨 렉쳐 씨어터에서 한국 영화제의 프로그램의 한부분으로 기획된 영상전 `Enclosed’을 통해, 한국작가를 포함한 10명의 국제 미디어 프로젝트를 소개한바 있다.(5월 2005) 퐁투스 키엔더 퐁투스 키엔더는 스웨덴의 Malmo 에서 활동하고있는 미술비평가이자 큐레이터이다. 최근에는 스웨덴 국영 방송국의 주말 현대 미술 프로그램인 SVT Bildjournalen의 편집장으로도 일하고 있다. 그가 기획한 전시로는 the international exhibitions Nature of Man (in Lunds Konsthall, Sweden, 1998; cat), Waterfront (part of the biennial Kulturbro, in Sweden and Denmark, 2000; cat), sur face (Lunds Konsthall, Sweden 2000; cat), Dagr (Santiago de Compostela, 2002), Ernesto Neto(Aarhus Kunstbygning, Denmark, 2002; cat), From Dust to Dusk (Charlottenborg, Copenhagen, 2003; cat)등을 들 수 있다. 1994년 부터 스웨덴의 주요 일간지 중의 하나인 Sydsvenska Dagblade에서 미술평론을 기고하고 있으며, 다수의 국내 및 국제 예술잡지에 미술비평을 써 오고 있다. 스웨덴 작가들 비평이외에 국제적 거장 작가들 예를들면 Ernesto Neto, Nedko Solakov 그리고 Maaria Wirkkala의 카다로그 서문을 제작 하였다. 핀란드에서 태어나고, 스웨덴에서 자란 그는, 이 두 나라의 언어뿐만 아니라 문화, 예술전반에 걸친 지식을 두루 겸비하고 있다.
