Samsung Art + Prize

Jan 19 – 28, 2012

BFI Southbank,

The Samsung Art+ Prize  is launched in January 2012 with the announcement of the 10 artists whose new media artworks were shown at an exhibition at the BFI London.  One of these artists was awarded the first prize of £10,000. Also a runners up prize of £5,000 and an additional lifetime contribution to media art award of £5,000.

In the era of smart media this prize celebrates the unique ways in which artists respond to the changing world and the parallel proliferation of media opportunities; not only as platforms of production and research but also as a rich palette of ideas and information for their works and fundamentally as new platforms for distribution beyond the traditional gallery. As the ways in which we  intuitively  use technology to enhance our experience becomes increasingly personal it is new media artists who most radically reflect our evolving synergy with the electronic ecology.

The artists nominated by leading curators for inclusion in the prize challenge many traditional assumptions about the nature of art and the image and often invite us to become implicated in their works as knowing viewers or as participants.

Ten selected artworks displayed in January 2012 at the BFI Southbank, London (Jan 19~28)
